If there was ever a day we needed sunshine and clear skies, it was this one. Juneau had been calling to us for months — a place of towering peaks, ancient ice, and the promise of one of the most exhilarating adventures we’ve ever curated. And on this day, Alaska delivered.
🌤️ Morning Magic and Market Strolls
Before our tour began, we wandered the charming streets of Juneau’s historic downtown — a long stretch lined with local shops, each one brimming with character. The air was crisp, the energy electric. We picked up a uniquely Alaskan souvenir: an ulu knife, the traditional curved blade used by Indigenous communities for generations.
🚁 Into the Wild: Helicopter to Dog Sledding

Then came the moment we’d been dreaming of — our helicopter adventure to the dog sledding camp and glacier landing. With six passengers and one skilled pilot, we lifted off into a world of white and wonder. The mountains rose around us like ancient sentinels, their snowy shoulders gleaming in the sunlight.
We landed atop the remote, snow- packed Herbert Glacier, where the dog sled teams awaited, led by a seasoned musher who had competed in the iconic Iditarod race — a grueling 1,000-mile journey across Alaska that defines the spirit of endurance and connection between human and dog. Hearing his stories added a layer of reverence to the experience.
🐾 Riding the Dream
Standing on the back of the sled, wind in our faces, we felt the raw thrill of movement and connection. It was surprisingly intuitive — the rhythm of the dogs, the crunch of snow, the vast silence of the mountains. The snow was deep, knee-high if you stepped off the path, and the landscape was nothing short of cinematic.
After thanking the dogs for their strength and spirit, we took to the skies again — this time heading for the glacier’s frozen ice pack.
❄️ Glacier Landing and Arctic Awe
Touching down on the ice was like stepping onto another planet. The frozen air was unlike anything we’d ever breathed — crisp, pure, and invigorating, as if the glacier itself had distilled the essence of Alaska into every breath. We walked across the shimmering surface, drank fresh glacier water straight from the source, and spotted mountain goats perched impossibly high on the snowy cliffs. It was humbling, exhilarating, and deeply grounding.

🏔️ Aerial Majesty: Mendenhall Glacier and Beyond
As we lifted off from the glacier for our return flight, the landscape unfolded beneath us in a breathtaking tapestry. We soared over the famed Mendenhall Glacier, its icy expanse stretching like a frozen river through the forested valleys. From above, we could see the deep crevasses, the shimmering blue ice, and the lush green canopy of the Tongass National Forest. Trees, waterfalls, and wildlife blurred below as we covered vast ground in minutes — a true bird’s-eye view of Alaska’s grandeur. There’s simply no better way to grasp the scale and beauty of this wild land.
🦅 Wildlife and Wonder on the Way Back
As we drove back to the ship, still buzzing from the adrenaline and awe, Alaska had a couple more gifts for us: bald eagles soaring overhead and bears ambling through the trees. It was as if the land itself was waving goodbye, proud to have shared its secrets.
This wasn’t just an excursion. It was a soul-stirring, heart-pounding celebration of nature’s grandeur and human connection. Juneau reminded us why we travel — to feel alive, to be humbled, and to carry stories that shimmer long after the journey ends.

At Anchor & Elegance, we believe in crafting moments that feel once-in-a-lifetime — and this was one of them. If you’re ready to chase wonder across the wild edges of the world, we’re here to make it unforgettable.
