Some days feel like they were handcrafted just for you—and our time in Skagway was one of them. Under a radiant Alaskan sun, we embarked on a full-day excursion that felt equal parts expedition and dreamscape.
🚤 Lynn Canal to Glacier Point: A Scenic Start

The morning began with a serene boat ride from Skagway through Lynn Canal to Glacier Point, gliding across North America's deepest fjord. We stayed warm inside the cabin, grateful for the shelter as we took in the dramatic scenery—cascading waterfalls tumbling down emerald cliffs, mist rising from the surface like a whispered invitation. It was the kind of quiet beauty that makes you lean into the moment.
🥾 Gearing Up at Glacier Point
Our boat brought us to Glacier Point; a remote and breathtaking launch site nestled in the wilderness. After a short bus ride, we geared up with boots, life jackets, paddles, and protective pants—each item a promise of adventure ahead. From there, we hiked a gentle half-mile trail through alpine terrain, the air fresh with pine and possibility, until we reached our canoes.

🛶 Canoeing to Davidson Glacier: A Journey into the Sublime
The real magic began as we paddled across a glacial lake toward the base of Davidson Glacier, a shimmering wall of ancient ice that felt like the edge of the world. We disembarked to explore the glacier runoff—smooth stones polished by centuries of meltwater, streams that sang with clarity, and a landscape so untouched it felt sacred.
We lingered in that moment of discovery, feeling like explorers tracing the contours of a forgotten map. Then, retracing our steps—canoe, hike, and laughter—we arrived at a rustic lunch spot where food and shared stories added flavor to the day.
🦅 Eagles, Sea Lions, and Waterfall Encores
The return boat ride was its own encore. Bald eagles soared overhead, their wings casting shadows on the water, while sea lions bobbed playfully in the distance, their antics drawing smiles from every deck. At one point, we made a quick pause to witness a truly unforgettable sight—clusters of sea lions basking on sun-warmed rocks, their sleek bodies glistening as they lounged, barked, and stretched in the golden light. All around us, waterfalls spilled down the cliffs in silvery ribbons, catching the sunlight and adding a rhythmic hush to the scene. It felt like nature’s own red carpet moment—a celebration of wild joy, coastal serenity, and the kind of grandeur that leaves you speechless.

🏘️ A Taste of Town: Skagway’s Wild West Charm
With time to spare after our excursion, we took a leisurely stroll into the town of Skagway—a manageable walk from the cruise ship and a welcome chance to stretch our legs. The town greeted us with old-timey storefronts, wooden boardwalks, and a mountain backdrop so dramatic it felt cinematic. We tried a famous beaver tail pastry, warm and sweet with just the right crunch, and wandered through streets that felt like a living postcard from the Gold Rush era. Pleasantly tired from a day of adventure, we made our way back to the ship, hearts full and spirits lifted.

Skagway reminded us that luxury isn’t just about comfort—it’s about access to rare, soul-stirring experiences. From glacier-fed streams to golden light on alpine peaks, this day was a celebration of nature’s grandeur and our place within it.
